Ishan Gunawardene, MD, FACP
Ishan Gunawardene, MD, FACPBoard-Certified Internist
Dr. Ishan Gunawardene is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Coney Island Hospital, an affiliate of State University of New York in Brooklyn, NY.
Dr. Gunawardene’s professional interests include internal medicine and academic medicine. As a adjunct clinical associate professor in internal medicine, he trained many doctors at Wellington Regional Medical Center to be exceptional medical family medicine providers who went on to specialize in various sub-specialties in medicine and become well-renowned family medicine providers in the local area.
Dr. Gunawardene was awarded the golden apple award by the residents as the best teacher in internal medicine out of all the doctors in 2010, 2011, and 2013. He also served on the medical executive committee at Wellington Regional, participating in many high-level decisions involving evidence-based patient care to achieve the best outcomes for many years. His credentials also include serving on many committees such as utilization, education, and peer review.

Shariffa Gunawardene, DNP, APRN
Shariffa Gunawardene is a board-certified family nurse practitioner treating patients of all ages for a wide variety of chronic and urgent health concerns, as well as offering prevention and education. Shariffa received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and her master’s degree and nurse practitioner certification from Florida Atlantic University.
Shariffa’s professional interests include practicing evidence-based family primary care. She spends time with each patient, getting to know them as an individual in order to customize their care.
